Hotel Islazul Costa Morena
Just 20 minutes away from the city, in Baconao Park, a preserve of the biosphere, the Costa Morena is a marvelous place for relaxing vacation near the Caribbean Sea, whose pleasant temperature is perfect for water sports. Add in the friendly service, and you can see why so many of our guests come back over and over again.
Cabanas Campismo Caleton Blanco
Campismo Calet?n Blanco is located off a very sparsely populated coastal road 30Km West of Santiago de Cuba City. The caba?as (villas) have all the facilities for a comfortable stay.
This remote part of Cuba is well off the beaten track and great place to escape \"civilisation\". The big reason to holiday here is for the awesome mountain trekking, and as a resting point before travelling further West to Cuba\'s biggest mountain trek up Pico Turquino, at Las Cuevas.
It has 22 double simply decorated cabanas with a wonderful view.
Hotel Brisas Los Galeones
At Chiv?rico, about one hour drive west of Santiago de Cuba, this all-inclusive hotel comprises two very distinct entities about one mile apart. Both are cliff-top, with sensational views down over the Caribbean Sea and towards the Sierra Maestra mountains. The main complex ? Brisas Sierra Mar ? has the lion\'s share of facilities, plus 200 rooms; the 34-room Los Galeones is an entirely more intimate experience. Apples and oranges. That they\'re operated as one is a quirk.
The Sierra Mar was formerly a SuperClubs property. Today, run wholly by Cubanac?n, it draws a mainly Canadian value-priced package crowd. We love the unique tone lent by its clifftop locale, with the swimming pool and sundeck overlooking a beach of gray sand accessed by a funicular. The Los Galeones outlet (linked by a shuttle bus) is limited to a small pool and paltry gym, plus sauna. But it also has a scuba outlet. The beach here is accessed by a 296-step staircase!
Hotel Brisas Sierra Mar
4 start Hotel Brisas Sierra Mar is part of Brisas Sierra Mar Los Galeones Complex located in the small, picturesque village of Chivirico, 2 hrs drive from Santiago de Cuba.
The location and the grounds are the high point of Brisas Sierra Mar Hotel. It is very lovely! The hotel is in a small Bay surrounded by chains of mountains. The gardeners take care of the numerous trees, plants, cactus, and flowering vegetation that is present everywhere. It is like a small flowering manicured jungle that surrounds you. Anywhere your turn you have a beautiful view of the sea and mountains.
It is an all inclusive, family friendly resort with plenty of facilities and things to do for adults and kids including the entertainment programs, catamaran, snorkelling, tours to Santiago de Cuba and many more.
Hotel Gran Caribe Casagranda
An institution for almost a century (Graham Greene was one famous figure who featured the hotel in his novels), this grande-dame hotel stands over Parque C?spedes. A more enviable setting is hard to imagine! We like this hotel on almost every level, although many of the staff seem indifferent, there\'s no on-site parking, and despite a recent refurbishing in 2005, this hotel already looks weary and overdue for yet another face-lift.
We love sitting at the open-air ground floor snack bar overlooking the park ? a great venue for catching the buzz of activity, and for sampling a mojito and cigar. The main restaurant offers sumptuous decor, including gilt mirrors and chandeliers; it does a reasonable job with criolla and continental dishes, although it\'s a tad pricey for what you get. The open-air rooftop grill is to be enjoyed for the spectacular views over the city.
Hotel Melia Santiago de Cuba
This five-star high-rise hotel is the real class act in town, although it\'s eyebrow-raising, Cubist-inspired post-modernist architecture stops many arrivees dead in their tracks. We actually like it, despite its gaudy blood-red and flamboyant sky-blue paint job framing the towering walls of glass. The vast atrium lobby gleams with marble beneath a soaring plate-glass ceiling. We\'ve enjoyed many a mojito at the mezzanine piano lounge-bar to one side, but this Spanish-managed hotel also hosts the city\'s best nightclub ? the Santiago Caf?.
The huge swimming pool is framed by palms and a thatched bar-restaurant, bringing a beachfront sense to the heart of the city. Guests can choose from four restaurants, two of them gourmet, including La Isabela ? to many people, the city\'s best restaurant, and we agree. Since the hotel caters as much to business travelers as to tourists (it\'s a staple of tour groups), there\'s a well-stocked cigar store plus a fully-equipped business center and meeting rooms. Plus the gym is well-equipped, the ladies can freshen up with beauty treatments, and a small shopping plaza includes fashion boutiques.
