Hotels in Playa Santa Lucia, Camaguey
Hotel Club Amigo Caracol
This is a sister all-inclusive hotel to the adjoining Club Amigo Mayanabo, with little to choose between them. Here, however, the accommodations ? built in the 1970s and still infused with an outdated \'70s feel ? are in two-story fourplex units rather in the large lateral blocks of the Mayanabo. It, too, benefitted from a refurbishment in 2003... but this hotel quiet clearly is ready for another face-lift. Some guests might consider its three-star billing to be overly generous. It appeals mainly from a budget-minded Canadian and European market arriving almost exclusively on package vacations.
Amenities here include a paltry gym and watersports such as Hobi-Cats and aqua-bikes. Nightlife here isn\'t on a par with the slightly more upscale Hotel Brisas Santa Luc?a, nearby, and guests here tend to fend for themselves. The two restaurants are also ho-hum.
The modestly furnished accommodations have up-to-date fixtures in bathrooms, but standards vary room to room due to poor construction.
Hotel Club Amigo Mayanabo
Billed as a three-star all-inclusive of the Cubanac?n chain, Club Amigo Mayanabo lines a gorgeous white-sand beach shelving into waters acclaimed for sensational scuba diving (however, rocks and sea grasses effectively put the waters off-limits for snorkeling and swimming). Offering no frills, it draws mainly from a budget-minded Canadian and European market arriving almost exclusively on package vacations. The hotel dates back almost three decades, when it served the Cuban masses. Although spruced up for tourist consumption, the Soviet-era structures look weary, from the weeds sprouting in the parking lot and pathways to the cracks and other signs of aging in the physical plant itself. Still, the hotel has been improved by a recent refurbishing, including new tile floors, and new (and very colorful) lounge chairs and umbrellas around the pool. And the management and staff here seem keen to please, and the place is kept clean.
Most accurately described as \"functional,\" rooms here are small and simply furnished, but have been recently refitted with silent air-conditioning, fresh soft goods, small remote-control satellite TVs (with only half a dozen foreign channels), plus phones.
